Persistent Pollutants

There are over 80,000 synthetic chemicals in use today and more are introduced every year. Some of these chemicals are persistent pollutants, meaning they persist in the environment and our bodies. Persistent pollutants are also toxic and bioaccumulative. They are found in every day products, like plastics and packaging, baby bottles, food cans, stain treatments, shampoos and cleansers.

Persistent pollutants pose an ongoing threat to human health and the environment and contribute to the chemical burden that we pass onto future generations.

Chemicals like triclosan, phthalates, bisphenol A (BPA), brominated flame retardants and perfluorinated toxins are passed from mother to child both in the womb and through breastmilk.NTN campaigns for the elimination of all PBTs from consumer products.
